I have some questions about styling hair..?

i have straight mohawk hair that i want to spike up. I bought bed head manipulator because salonist told me it would make my hair spiked and hard the way i want it but it turns out it doesnt even make my hair hard. makes it sticky too. And my friend gave me ice spiker glue and it seems to hold my hair better. But, i really suck at spiking my hair.. somehow it always looks unnatural. Am i supposed to use a comb or a blowdryer? im not very good at twisting spikes at all.. should i use a hairspray with it? Someone with experience pls give me a step by step tutorial thx.
