My cornea has been hurting for two days?

A few days ago I was sweeping at work and suddenly my eye hurt really bad and I went to the bathroom and watered out my eye. It still ached really bad on my cornea. I umed the dirt that did get in there might have scratched it because I thoroughly examined my eye and the eyelid for any dirt and I didn't see anything. I thought the pain would go away within at least a day and it didn't. I don't think eye pain should last this long. Before I go to the doctor, do you think that it might heal within a period of a few more days?
